A month had passed and my parents were six feet.

We lived on the island for everything had been taken away from us. Yet that did not bother me. My only bother was how I was going to take care of my siblings.

Just as I thought of this, I heard someone banging on the door and I got to the door and found it was Agatha my mother’s aunt.

I was not expecting such an ungodly visit, yet I opened the door. I made sure I entertained her like every other person that visited us during that trying period.

A heavy silence fell upon the room. Then she broke the silence by saying she was travelling abroad and I was the only one who was going with her. That sounded dumb but I paid attention. I was 19 what did I know? She went on to say my brothers were going to stay back yet attend a boarding school which she had already paid for.

A part of me was happy my brothers were going to pursue their academic journey and the other part wondered why I’ll be the only one going abroad.

Then I asked her “aunt why am I the only one travelling?” Then she smiled broadly and told me I had a fully funded scholarship program to pursue.

For the first time in weeks, I was overjoyed; not because I was furthering my studies but because someone we least expected was being kind to us.

Five months later, my brothers left for school and within the same period my travel documents were set. That was so timely.

A week later, Agatha and I left for the United States. When we got there, she had her Personal assistant pick us up from the Los Angeles international airport. To my greatest surprise Agatha had a beautiful mansion in Hollywood. I was super excited because Hollywood had been a place I had dreamt so much of visiting. I smiled broadly for it seemed to me she had everything planned out for good.

When I stepped out of the car, Agatha told me to feel very comfortable and made the staff take up my luggage. Could this be a dream? I thought.
